Michael J Fox’s new movie lands 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating

Still: A Michael J Fox Movie had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last week, and it’s landed a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score from all the critics who have reviewed it so far.

The film is a documentary that chronicles the career of the Back to the Future and The Good Wife actor, who retired in 2020, and his life with Parkinson’s, from his diagnosis over 30 years ago to now.

At the time of writing, the film has a 100% score on the aggregate site, meaning that every critic gave it a positive review, but it doesn’t take into account the actual score given.

The reviews have commended the film for Fox’s candour about living with Parkinson’s, acknowledging that his fame and money give him privilege many people with the condition don’t have, and having the self-deprecating sense of humour that the actor has become known for in recent years.

Variety‘s review states: “[Director David] Guggenheim is the ideal interviewer for the task, asking sincere yet sensitive questions that yield candid answers.

“He and Harte do something else remarkable: They hold on Fox, including footage most editors would cut in which the actor appears vulnerable in the space between sound bites.”

“Fox is open — not just about his disease, but about his personal failings as well. He discusses how, even before Parkinson’s, he was an absent husband and father chasing fame over his family,” IndieWire‘s review reads.

“He describes turning to alcohol instead of grappling with the reality of his circumstances in the years before he was public with his Parkinson’s. The unsavoury idea of Michael J Fox: The Jerk lingers just under the surface of Still, and is a concept that Guggenheim addresses but doesn’t want to fully explore.”

Still: A Michael J Fox Movie will come to Apple TV+ later this year.
