The Solomon Islands sit on the “Ring of Fire” area of tectonic activity in the Pacific.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred at 01:35 am early this morning near Latitude 60.2 Degrees South, Longitude 155.4 Degrees East.

This is approximately 181 kilometers southwest of Choiseul Province.

The Solomon Islands was rocked by a 7.0 quake in late November 2022, near the southwest region of Malango. Memories of the quake are still fresh in people’s minds.

The Solomon Islands sit on the “Ring of Fire” area of tectonic activity in the Pacific. The so-called Ring of Fire is named as such because it is a zone of frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

This is where the Pacific Plate meets many surrounding tectonic plates. The Ring of Fire is the most seismically and volcanically active zone in the world.
