Lionel Messi only two minutes to score the opening goal of the match Argentina vs Australia
Argentina had more chances in an opening 15 minutes where they ran riot, but Australia soon settled and began to hit Argentina on the break.
Striker Mitch Duke had their best chance of the game midway through the first period when his header from a Riley McGree cross forced a great reaction stop from Emiliano Martinez.
Both sides created chances in an even match, but Argentina doubled their advantage when an onrushing German Pezzella emphatically headed home a Rodrigo De Paul cross after some sloppy marking from the Socceroos.
Australia pushed for a goal that would have made the game interesting, but Argentina were able to see out the match, with Messi’s class on display as he wowed the capacity crowd at the Workers Stadium.

Or could the energy and dynamic pressing of Brandon Borrello help create the crucial chance for the Socceroos?
Half time: Argentina hold a narrow lead thanks to a fantastic Messi strike after just two minutes. Australia did well to regroup and had the next best chance through a Mitch Duke header requiring a smart stop from Martinez. All to play for in the second half!
