Indonesia Updates Data of Citizens Abroad for 2024 General Elections

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry will keep updating data on its citizens abroad both at the central and representative levels to support the 2024 general elections.
“The task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is clear: ensuring Indonesian citizens having their political rights abroad fulfilled, and ensuring accountability for data on overseas voters,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi in a speech at the annual press statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
The ministry had submitted data on DP4 (potential voters), or the list of foreign voters for the 2024 elections, to the General Elections Commission (KPU) in Jakarta in mid-December. Expert Staff for Socio-Cultural Affairs and Empowerment of Indonesian Communities Abroad, Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, provided data of 1,806,714 potential voters to the KPU.
The number consists of 935 women and 740,105 men. “There are 990 people who will reach voting age,” Siti added.
She said the ministry used the Peduli WNI or care for Indonesians platform to carry out data restoration. After the data was submitted, the ministry is ready to support the next step of the upcoming election, such as establishing election working groups abroad.
“Data on Indonesian citizens abroad is always dynamic, for this reason, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all Indonesian representatives continue to update the data on an ongoing basis,” said Siti.
On the same occasion last mid-December, KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari said the election organizers had developed a page titled cekdptonline.kpu.go.id for the public to check whether they have been registered as voters or not.
