Government targets forex earnings of US$2.07 billion from tourism

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, has said that her ministry is targeting foreign exchange (forex) earnings of at least US$2.07 billion from the tourism sector this year.
With the upper threshold of the target set at US$5.95 billion, the ministry is targeting that the contribution of the tourism sector to the national gross domestic product (GDP) will reach 4.1 percent, she informed.
“The economic creative product export value is expected to surpass US$26.46 billion or Rp397.98 trillion, while the added value on the creative economy is targeted at Rp1.297 trillion (US$85.9 billion),” Tanoesoedibjo said, according to a statement released here on Friday.
The ministry is targeting that the national travel and tourism index ranking this year will be in the range of 29th to 34th place.

Moreover, by 2023, 21.93 million people are expected to find employment in the tourism sector, while 22.59 million are expected to work in the creative economic sector, she added.
“We also project 3.5 million–7.4 million foreign tourists visiting Indonesia this year, and the target of domestic tourists movement is at 1.2 million–1.4 million,” the deputy minister informed.
Meanwhile, Tanoesoedibjo said that the deputies of the ministry have all conceived strategic programs and will collaborate with each other and other relevant parties to achieve the ministry’s target this year.
“We will ensure that every deputy will coordinate with each other to support Indonesia’s tourism and creative economic sector, as well as to provide as many jobs the sector can make,” she said.
Tanoesoedibjo then highlighted the ministry’s success in developing tourism villages at the five super-priority tourism destinations in 2022, with the tourism villages database website indicating that the number of tourism villages nationwide reached 3,620.
The ministry also enhanced assistance programs for human resources in the tourism and creative economy sector and entrepreneurs at tourism villages last year, she added.
