LeBron James Reacts To Russell Westbrook’s Shot Selection

The Los Angeles Lakers have once again started the season on the wrong foot. They’ve competed for the most part of their first three games, yet they haven’t been able to get their first win of the 2022-23 NBA season.

Darvin Ham wants the Lakers to take pride in their defense, but they’ve failed to close out games down the stretch despite boasting the third-best defensive rating in the Association.

The Lakers Are In Trouble
The Lakers are 0-3 after dropping games to the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Portland Trail Blazers. Moreover, it seems like things won’t get easier any time soon, as they’re due for dates with the Denver Nuggets (x2), Minnesota Timberwolves, and New Orleans Pelicans.

There’s a legit chance they go 0-7 to start the season. Unsurprisingly, fans are blaming Russell Westbrook’s poor shooting for their shortcomings, as he’s failed to make an offensive impact thus far.

LeBron Won’t Blame Westbrook
Nonetheless, LeBron James refused to throw his teammate under the bus, and he didn’t seem too happy after constantly being asked about Westbrook’s shot selection:

“I don’t know. I feel like this is an interview trying to get me to set me up to say something,” the veteran said. “I can tell you guys are on the whole Russell Westbrook category right now. I don’t like to lose. I hate to lose in any — I don’t care what happens over the course of the season, during the course of my career, I hate to lose, especially the way we had this game. But give credit to Portland. You guys are going about Russ and all the things you guys wanna try to talk about Russ but I’m not up here just to do that.”

James Still Has Faith
James explained how they’ve all struggled with their shot, but praised the team’s effort on the defensive end of the floor:

“We can’t shoot a penny into the ocean,” LeBron added. “But it hasn’t stopped us from competing, hasn’t stopped us from defending; that’s given us a chance in all three games to win.”

A Trade Seems Imminent
The Lakers rank dead-last in the league in both three-pointers per game (8.3) and three-point percentage (21.2%). Clearly, their offseason acquisition didn’t solve their spacing issues, and Westbrook isn’t a good fit for their current roster.

So, as much as Darvin Ham and LeBron want to have Westbrook’s back, it seems like it’s a matter of time before Rob Pelinka cuts ties with him and sends him somewhere else in a trade.
