The wait is over. De La Soul‘s entire discography is officially available on streaming services.
The group’s first six albums were previously held back due to legal disputes with former label Tommy Boy Records. Now that Reservoir Media owns the rights to those records, De La’s music has been freed.
For the first time, fans can listen to the group’s 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump and AOI: Bionix. The release comes on the 34th anniversary of their first album. Artwork from the project inspired the designs and decorations for The DA.I.S.Y. Experience at New York City’s Webster Hall.
As reported, the March 2 event, produced with Amazon Music, was meant to celebrate the impact and influence of De La Soul while paying homage to David “Trugoy The Dove” Jolicoeur, who passed away on February 12.
De La Soul took the stage Thursday with an impromptu performance, including songs “Stakes is High,” “Potholes in my Lawn” and “Me Myself and I.” The likes of Black Thought, Dave Chappelle, Chuck D, Talib Kweli and more joined the group onstage, with Common performing “The Bizness” alongside the rap group. Queen Latifah also took the stage with “Ladies First,” and The Originals (D-Nice, Stretch Armstrong, Clark Kent and Rich Medina) played a set featuring songs from De La’s discography.
