When Trying To Find Car Parts, Don’t Overlook Salvage

You will need a few recycling bins or plastic boxes. Have several recycling bins in your home. One each for plastic, aluminum, green waste, newspapers, etc. Spend an evening talking with your family about the bins and what goes in them. Teach them about how the different things are taken to recycling centers and made into new products. This is an important step. The kids need to know where the items go and what happens to them after they put them in the bin. If you can find a video of a recycling plant or even arrange a tour it will make a big impact on your family. Once they realize what happens to the waste they will be more likely to recycle.
There is another way to divert waste, in the lunchroom. Employees should be encouraged to buy or bring waste-free lunches. Reusable containers can be used, instead of throwaways. Many companies keep paper plates in their lunchrooms. But, if there is a sink, reusable dishes can be used, and washed by the individual employees. Some companies even have dishwashers, in their lunchroom. This should also include cups, coffee mugs and silverware. These items can be easily washed and stored; and a tremendous amount of waste would be diverted from garbage bins, landfills, and ultimately, our soil and water resources.
Search for local auto salvage yards. The Internet is a great place to find junk yards in your area. Enter “auto salvage yards” followed by the name of your city or town and check the results. If you’re using Google, you’ll also see a map returned that will pinpoint the exact locations of nearby yards. Pick up the phone and call each yard and explain what you own and what is wrong with your car. You may be asked about recent repairs and stand out features such as a customized grille, newer wheels and what type of audio system is present.
It helps to know ahead of time what exactly you need. Whether you’re building something from scratch or looking to replace parts that you already have, it makes a difference when you go to actually get them. Replacements may be cheaper than parts you plan to use for construction, or vice versa. So the first step is making a list.
Today is the actually a great day to talk about recycling. Each Thursday the council sends around men to collect our recyclables. The council gives us re-usable sacks, which we can use to collect all paper, cardboard, tin cans, aluminium, glass bottles and jars and plastic bottles.
