Today’s Wordle #710 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, May 30th

Written by on May 30, 2023

Well, you can almost see June from here, folks. May is on its last legs. Summer officially starts in just three weeks, though it feels like summer already to me.

I was thinking about the names of the months the other day and it occurred to me that of them all, only May can be spelled backwards and create a word: Yam.

June backwards is enuj. March is chram (so close to charm, but no cigar). April is lirpa (which you could probably coin for something). July is yluj. August is tsugua (which maybe you could make a name for some exotic fantasy creature or city).

And forget about all the embers. December becomes rebmeced. You get the picutre.

So it is one unique thing about May, which is also the shortest month name. May is for yams, and don’t you forget it!

Let’s do this Wordle!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After I complete a Wordle I always head over to check in with Wordle Bot to see how I scored, both in terms of each individual guess and whether or not I outsmarted the Bot.

Four guesses, but I think a reasonable strategy all around. My opening guess was weird and did quite poorly, leaving me with just one box in yellow and a whopping 336 remaining guesses.

Wanting to knock out the rest of the vowels in one fell swoop, I guessed about for my second word, turning up exactly zero boxes and slashing my remaining possible solutions down to just 27.

At this point, I had a hunch that the Wordle might have a double E since all the other vowels (other than Y) were ruled out. It was also possible that it would be a single ‘E’ word, but guessing a double letter would allow me to at least test out two more boxes for its placement. I got lucky with sleep, which ruled out every remaining solution but one: kneel.

And as Daenerys always said, over and over again, “Bend the knee!”

Kneel and obey!

Today’s Score: A loss today. Zero points for guessing in four and -1 point for losing to Wordle Bot, who guessed slate / riven / kneel. Good job Wordle Bot, you bastard.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “kneel” has its origins in Old English. It can be traced back to the Old English word “cnēowlian,” which meant “to bend the knees” or “to kneel.” The root of this word is “cnēow,” which means “knee.”

In the evolution of the word, the initial “c” sound changed to a “k” sound, which is a common phonetic shift in Old English. Over time, the spelling of the word also evolved, eventually settling on “kneel” as we know it today.

The concept of kneeling and its associated verb “kneel” has been an integral part of human culture and religious practices throughout history. Kneeling is often associated with reverence, humility, prayer, submission, or supplication. The word has retained its meaning and significance through the centuries and is still widely used in modern English.
