Marc Verillotte was part of the Raid assault column for twenty years. During his career, he was shot and wounded by Mohammed Merah, hunted down the Kouachi brothers and then was on the front line during the Hyper Cacher hostage-taking in 2015. Here is his testimony.

Marc Verillotte was a member of the Raid for 20 years. He notably intervened in the assault on Mohammed Merah in 2012, during which he was injured. “Immediately, I warn. I say: ‘I’m hit, don’t come looking for me. I’ll manage to exfiltrate myself’. If a comrade had taken a bullet for me, I would have felt ‘to be hit by a third bullet,’ he explains.

A Legion of Honor
During the January 2015 attacks, Marc Verillotte was sent to the Hyper Kosher, where Amedy Coulibaly held hostages. A specialist in explosives, he must blow up one of the doors. “It was the service door, the door to the storage room. It was a metal pulling door, obviously made to resist burglars. So we already knew that breaking in from both sides was going to be difficult”, he testifies. This allowed the other Raid members to open a shutter of the store, an action the assailant did not see them do. Marc Verillotte received the Legion of Honor.
