A compressor is a mechanical device in which the pressure and density of a gas or vapour can be increased. If the compressor is not running efficiently, it needs to be repaired. A compressor works in the same way as a pump. The main difference is that a pump is used for incompressible fluids while a compressor is used for compressible fluids.
Component of the Compressors
Rotor
All of these components rotate in a centrifugal compressor and are called rotors.
Shaft
The shaft is the main support of the rotating part. It is made of durable metal. Connects to other components such as impeller, level drum, thrust ring, bearings, seals.
Impeller
The impeller is an integral part of the centrifugal compressors. With the help of the gas molecules, they become a moving force.
Balance and drum
For the compressor, this part is called the balance plate. In the case of turbines, this is called a balancing drum. In the case of the pump, this part is called the balanced piston. The main function of the balancing drum is to prevent axial movement of the compressor rotor.
For compressors, the scale or drum scale is center or right. In the case of a high-pressure compressor (over 40 kg), the balance plate is in the center. For low pressures (40 kg), the scale or drum scale is on the left. When the scale or drum plate is on the right side, the compressor suction tube is connected to the right side of the scale or drum plate. The result is that the pressure in this space is equal to that of the compressor. As a result, the compressor rotor cannot be accidentally moved to the left. This is the principle of operation of the compressor graduated plate or graduated drum.
Seal
The high-pressure gas molecules at the opening of the hermetic compressor prevent the molecules from moving outward or under pressure. The compressor uses three-point seals.
Diaphragm and Diffuser
The compressor diaphragm and the diffuser are the static part of the compressor. Like other compressors in the body, the diffuser is one of the hollow spaces. The gas molecules in the impeller become a moving force to create a lot of pressure.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft is an integral part of the precision compressor that maintains or connects the drive system and connecting rod.
Types of Compressors
Positive Displacement Compressors
Positive displacement compressors include a variety of air compressors that generate energy through air replacement. The principle of operation of this type is different, but the principle is the same. The cavity inside the device stores air from the outside and then gently compresses the cavity to increase the air pressure and potential energy.
Rotary screw compressor
Like typical positive displacement compressors, screw comp are the simplest type of air compressors to maintain because they are equipped with an internal cooling system and do not require much maintenance. These are usually large industrial machines that can lubricate.
The screw air compressors generate power through two internal rotors that rotate in opposite directions. Air gets stuck between two opposing rotors and creates pressure in the chamber. Reciprocating Compressor
It usually uses in smaller workplaces such as garages and home construction projects. Unlike screw compressors, reciprocating compressors are not designed for continuous use. These have more moving parts than screw compressors, and these parts are lubricated with oil to move them more smoothly.
