Shemar Moore recalled being turned down by Alicia Keys during Thursday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show.
The 52-year-old actor reminisced with Hudson about his interaction with the 42-year-old singer during his tenure hosting Soul Train around the turn of this century.
The S.W.A.T. star’s appearance on the show took place just a day after he shared the first photo of his newborn daughter Frankie, who was born on Tuesday.

Moore and Hudson began by speaking about his time as the host of Soul Train, which he headlined from 1999 until 2003, and he noted that he was introduced to many entertainers while working on the program, including Keys.
He then told the show’s 41-year-old host that he had attempted to ask the singer out on a date, much to the surprise of both her and the audience.
Moore stated that their encounter took place ‘when she was first blowing up’ as a performer and that he was impressed by her piano-playing skills during the Soul Train Music Awards.
According to him, he and one of his friends attended one of Keys’ listening parties, during which he was encouraged to ask her on a date.

Moore added that Keys’ ‘aunt was right there, laughing and snickering at me.’
Her response was, ‘Check this out, son. I respect your flirt game, but my man situation is handled.’
Moore was deflated, and he said he ‘walked away so uncool’ after the rejection before he immediately told his friend that he wanted to leave the party.

People later confirmed that the singer and Dizon, 39, had welcomed Frankie this past Tuesday.
A representative for the couple spoke to the media outlet and stated that the actor’s ‘family is very happy and healthy.’
