Pakistan in the semifinals with one match in hand

Written by on October 1, 2022

After India, New Zealand and Afghanistan, Pakistan continued their winning streak of four consecutive matches in this year’s Twenty20 World Cup by defeating Namibia by 45 runs on Tuesday (November 2). With this victory, Babar Ajmara secured the semi-final as the first team of Gru-2.

Whatever the adjectives of Pakistan in the incredible, extraordinary or great current tournament, it is hard to say. They did not allow the opponent to stand with the glory of bat and ball. The same scenario against New Zealand and Afghanistan after writing a new history by beating India in the opening match of the World Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, Babar-Rizwan won the toss and elected to bat against Namibia in the fourth match of the Super Twelve. They lost just 2 wickets and made 179 runs. Namibia, who came to play in the World Cup for the first time, fought hard in the end despite pushing at the beginning to chase the huge target.

Needless to say, the match against Namibia was more exciting than India and New Zealand. Although David Wise lost in the end, the fight continued until the last ball.

Pakistan have won all the previous three matches of the Super Twelve by batting later. So the bowlers have not had to go through so much ‘ordeal’ so far. And so Babar Azam took the bat before winning the toss against Namibia on Tuesday (November 2). Like playing a little before the big match. However, Shaheen-Raufra passed the test well.

On this day, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan started slowly. However, they were able to keep the wicket even though the run wheel was not moving. The Babars scored 59 runs in the first 10 overs without losing a wicket.

But then the two openers started batting aggressively. After passing 59 in 10 overs, the team crossed 100 in 13 overs. Babar and Rizwan have batted well even today. However, the Pakistan captain was dismissed for 60 off 49 balls. He returned to the dressing room with a catch by Frylink with Wise’s ball.

After losing 1 wicket, Pakistan scored 116 runs in 15 overs. Fakhar Zaman, who came down to bat after Babar, returned to the dressing room with only 5 balls. He was caught by wicketkeeper Green off Frylink.

But in the end Rizwan was unbeaten on 69 off 50 balls. With him, Mohammad Hafeez’s storming innings of 32 off 16 balls further increased Pakistan’s target towards the end. Rizwan made 24 runs in the last over.

In international cricket, the two teams have played one match before today. In that match of the ODI World Cup in 2003, Pakistan won by 181 runs.
