Nintendo Switch sales are disappointing
The Nintendo Switch is one of the best-selling consoles of all time, but that doesn’t mean it’s constantly breaking records. In the past quarter, sales were even somewhat disappointing. Nintendo still suffers from the chip shortage.
The Nintendo Switch is almost 6 years old, but its popularity has never waned. The console has surpassed the Wii as the best-selling Nintendo home console. The counter for the Switch now stands at 114 million. Only the Game Boy and DS families have sold even more.

But that’s the total picture: sales have been disappointing in the past period, as shown by the quarterly figures. In the past six months, the Switch has only been sold 6.68 million times, 19.2 percent less than in the same period a year ago. Demand for the console remains stable, according to Nintendo, but the chip shortage is still in the way.

That is why the company has also adjusted its expectations for the current fiscal year. At the end of March 2023, Nintendo would have liked to sell 21 million Switch consoles, but the expectation is now 19 million. In addition, the giant indicates that there is a gradual improvement in the supply of chips and other components, so the chip shortage seems to be on its way despite everything.
Nintendo sells a lot of games
Nintendo’s profit has been good in the past six months and that has everything to do with strong game sales. For example, Splatoon 3 has sold 7.9 million times and Nintendo Switch Sports 6.15 million times. Also in the future, Nintendo expects good results from, for example, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which will undoubtedly also contribute to Switch sales.
