Netflix cancels beloved series again
Bad news for fans of the Netflix series Fate: The Winx Saga. Netflix is pulling the plug after two seasons.
Netflix
Showrunner Brian Young announces on Instagram that Fate: The Winx Saga is coming to an end. Young regrets Netflix’s decision, but expresses pride in what the cast and crew have accomplished.
What is Fate: The Winx Saga?
Fate: The Winx Saga is loosely based on the much-loved Winx Club cartoon series from the early 2000s about six fairies who not only attend a magical school but also regularly save the world. Fate was a lot more mature than the original, with more violence and sex. The series premiered on Netflix last year, but not without a fight. Even before the first episode was shown, fans of the original were already criticized: for example, two of the fairies were missing from the cast and the character Musa was no longer Asian.

Despite all the criticism, there were also enough viewers who liked the series and the series was popular enough for a second season. So it ends now, to the chagrin of the fans who hoped for a sequel.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Netflix has canceled a series. Earlier this year, the streaming service also drew a line through, among others, First Kill, Raising Dion, Gentefied, Pretty Smart, On The Verge and Resident Evil.
