Lisa Loring, the first Wednesday in 1964’s ‘The Addams Family’, dies at 64

The Addams Family universe is in mourning following the death of Lisa Loring, who was the first to play the character ‘Wednesday’ in the 1964 TV adaptation.

The actress has died at the age of 64 from a series of complications following a stroke caused by high blood pressure.

Vanessa Foumberg, her daughter, told The Hollywood Reporter that Loring passed last Saturday and, as Foumberg said, she went “peacefully” and “with his two daughters holding her hand”.

Her greatest success, being the first Wednesday Addams

Loring was best known for her role as Wednesday Addams on ABC. It was the first television adaptation of ‘The Addams Family’, which was a great success and, at the same time, laid the foundations for the interpretations of Christina Ricci first and Jenna Ortega more recently.

In fact, the star of the groundbreaking Netflix series admitted that she was inspired by Loring in her transformation into the transgressive little girl.

Her career in film and television began in 1964, when she landed a role in ‘Dr. Kildare’, followed by a chance to make history in the dark comedy ‘The Addams Family’.

“It was like a real family: you couldn’t have picked a better cast and crew. Carolyn Jones, John Astin, Gomez and Morticia, they were like parents to me. They were great,” Loring said in a 2017 interview for the Monsterpalooza convention.

The series, which ran for two seasons and had a total of 64 episodes, featured a ‘reunion’ years later in 1977.

‘Halloween With the New Addams Family’ was the last time the original cast could be seen in full. Now, with the death of Loring, the last living member of the first Addams family that viewers saw on screen is gone.
