How Tall Is Darth Vader?

Across the Star Wars franchise, Darth Vader remains one of the most recognizable and foreboding villains. When he first debuted on the big screen in George Lucas’ introductory film, Star Wars: A New Hope, he was portrayed as a cruel and relentless tyrant bent on tearing down the Rebel Alliance. The former Jedi apprentice of Luke Skywalker’s mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader had turned to the dark side long ago, but it wasn’t until the second film that he revealed himself to be Luke’s father. But fans still knew little about the Dark Lord of the Sith.
It wasn’t until the prequel trilogy that debuted in 1999 that viewers got a glimpse of young Anakin Skywalker, a child born to a mother but without a father. This unique circumstance, along with the immense Force potential the boy harbored, convinced Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jin that Anakin was the child of prophecy. The Jedi Council wasn’t entirely convinced of Anakin, and with good reason. He turned to the dark side. Over the years, Anakin/Vader’s story has grown, appearing in films and animation as well as novels, comics and video games. He looms large over all who dare to challenge his will and authority, but is that because he’s physically tall, or simply able to project himself in such a way that his enemies and subordinates cower in his wake?
How Tall Is Darth Vader In the Suit?
One of the things that made Darth Vader such a recognizable and powerful figure was the infamous armor he donned. Fully armored and with his boots and helmet on, he stood 2.03m, or around 6’7″ tall. That height was relatively close to the actor inside the suit, the late David Prowse, and Spencer Wilding, who portrayed Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Both of them were 6’6″ tall.
Forging an imposing presence, the armored Vader overshadowed just about everyone in his wake. The suit was purposely designed that way, but it was also a necessary part of his survival. What most people who knew him as Vader didn’t realize was that in his fight against Obi-Wan on Mustafar, Anakin lost both of his legs, his remaining organic arm and suffered burns so severe over his entire body that it did significant damage to his internal organs. The suit not only allowed him to be mobile again, but it protected his eternally damaged flesh by filtering out potentially deadly bacteria and toxins that would have caused infection and possibly even death. It also made it so he could actually breathe–the sound of which instilled galactic terror because it preceded him wherever he went.
How Tall Is Anakin Skywalker?
Hayden Christianson, who portrayed Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and most recently Disney +’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series, measures in at 6′ tall. The actor who portrayed Anakin in Return of the Jedi, Sebastian Shaw, is also 6′ tall. As a character, however, Anakin reached 6’2″ before the loss of his limbs on Mustafar. His son, Luke Skywalker, only grew to around 5’6″, which is three inches shorter than actor Mark Hamill’s actual height.
How Many Yodas Tall Is Darth Vader?
Yoda may have been one of the most powerful Jedis of his time, but he was also potentially one of the smallest. Measuring in at just .66 meters, or almost 2’2″, it would take a little more than three Yodas to stack up and reach Darth Vader’s height, and that’s assuming he’s standing up straight. Remember, Master Yoda was old long before he met Anakin/Vader, and though he was still in fine fighting form when circumstances called for it, he spent a lot of his time hunching over because his back was probably killing him. Taking that into consideration, it would likely take three and a half 900-year-old Yodas to reach a fully-suited Darth Vader’s height.
