A new image from the Ahsoka show teases a new Inquisitor who’s seemingly active during the post-original trilogy era, long after the Imperial Inquisitors were thought to have faded away. Likewise, the mystery as to who might be beneath the helmet has led to wide speculation including Ahsoka’s past rival Barriss Offee along with a variation of the Eighth Brother’s armor, making Ahsoka his live-action debut. However, much of the excitement online surrounds a canon version of Starkiller, albeit getting a new origin as one of Vader’s Inquisitors. You can check out some of the reactions below:

Who Is Starkiller, Darth Vader’s Apprentice From Legends?

The son of a Jedi Purge survivor slain by Vader during the early days of the Empire, young Galen Marek impressed the Dark Lord of the Sith. Taking the boy in secret and training him in the ways of the dark side, Galen became known as Starkiller, Vader’s secret apprentice to be used in a potential bid to overthrow Emperor Palpatine. However, the truth was eventually discovered by Palpatine and Starkiller was betrayed by Vader, leading to Galen’s redemption before his death and playing a critical role in the formation of the Rebellion in the previous Legends continuity.

Starkiller was later cloned by Vader as seen in the second Force Unleashed game, though he eventually turned on the Sith Lord, becoming a Rebellion hero just like the original. Regardless, the idea of Starkiller returning to the Star Wars canon (with altered Inquisitor origins) is massive. Not only would it create the opportunity for Anakin’s apprentice to face Vader’s, but it would also pay off the unused idea Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni had to make Starkiller an Inquisitor when he was show-running Star Wars Rebels.

Starkiller was voiced by and based on the likeness of actor Sam Witwer who’d go on to voice both The Son and Darth Maul in Star Wars’ animated shows. As such, the character could easily make a live-action debut in Ahsoka as the man beneath the mysterious Inquisitor helmet. Fans will just have to wait and see when the upcoming Star Wars show begins streaming in August.
