While Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continues webbing up millions and millions of dollars at the box office, it has been announced that the Spider-Verse is getting set to expand with an official short film set within the popular Miles Morales universe.
The Wrap debuts a first-look (seen above) at the upcoming short film this morning, which is titled The Spider Within. And surprisingly, it’s said to be a “horror-tinged” short film!
The Wrap reports, “The Sony-produced film focuses on what happens when Miles Morales (once again played by Shameik Moore) starts to feel the pressure of his life as Spider-Man, which results in a scary, trippy little jaunt through his subconscious.”
Jarelle Dampier directed the short. He tells The Wrap, “My favorite genre is horror. I think it’s the perfect envelope to give great messages out, especially to younger audiences, and I think it’s something that we’ve kind of shied away from for a long time.”
The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is a short film created through Sony’s LENS program by Director Jarelle Dampier, Writer Khaila Amazan, VFX Supervisor Clara Chan, Animation Supervisor Joe Darko, and Producers Michelle Raimo-Kouyate and David Schulenburg.
When will you be able to watch the short film? Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
In Across the Spider-Verse, now in theaters, “Miles catapults across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.”
Miles will also battle Venom (Tony Todd) in the upcoming video game Spider-Man 2.
