The Flash is the Third-Best DCEU Solo Movie on Rotten Tomatoes
Written by on June 13, 2023
The Flash received rave reviews from numerous early screenings, even including rumored praise by Tom Cruise, but now that reviews are finally being published, how does that translate to its Rotten Tomatoes score, and how does that compare to other DCEU movies? The DCEU has notoriously struggled with Rotten Tomatoes, so as the movie meant to reset the whole timeline with the introduction of the multiverse, where does The Flash rank against other DCEU movies in Rotten Tomatoes?
The DCEU is full of behind-the-scenes drama, and The Flash is no exception, going through multiple teams of writers and directors. It was stuck in development hell for so long it seemed like it might not actually arrive, much less get good reviews. Now, after weeks of praise from early screenings, it finally has an actual Rotten Tomatoes score. Here’s what the score means and how it compares to the rest of the movies in the DCEU.
The Flash is Tied For Fifth-Highest Rated DCEU Movie on Rotten Tomatoes
The Flash currently has a 71 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, tied with Zack Snyder’s Justice League as the fifth highest-rated DCEU movie on Rotten Tomatoes and only the eighth movie in the franchise to actually earn a “Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes after 14 DCEU movies. As a whole, the DCEU’s Rotten Tomatoes average is just 61 percent, putting The Flash‘s score just 10 points higher than the average. The DCEU movies with a higher score include Wonder Woman (93 percent), The Suicide Squad (91 percent), Shazam! (90 percent), and Birds of Prey (79 percent).
The Flash is the Third-Best DCEU Solo Movie on Rotten Tomatoes
Despite only tying for the fifth-highest Rotten Tomatoes score overall for the DCEU, The Flash is actually the third-best Rotten Tomatoes score for a solo movie in the DCEU. Of the DCEU movies with a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than The Flash, Wonder Woman and Shazam! are the only ones that aren’t a team-up or ensemble movie. To be fair, only a few other movies in the franchise can even be characterized as “solo movies,” with Man of Steel, Aquaman, and Black Adam standing as the only movies with a primary focus on a single character or origin story.
Despite mostly positive reviews The Flash‘s 71 percent Rotten Tomatoes score certainly doesn’t break the mold when it comes to the DCEU’s complicated history with Rotten Tomatoes. With James Gunn’s quasi-reboot of DCEU canon coming with Superman: Legacy, it’s not clear how much The Flash‘s reviews or Rotten Tomatoes score ultimately matters to the future of the franchise, but if it serves as a sort of end-point to everything that came before, at least it ends the DCEU on a mostly positive note.
