Sanya Malhotra is on a roll, after getting loads of praise for her performance in Kathal, she will be next seen in Jawan with Shah Rukh Khan. Among her many qualities, one that stands out the most is her ability to take risks and try different kinds of roles, right from her first film Dangal.
Talking about her habit of mixing it up when it comes to her film choices, she said, “I started off with a film like Dangal which was not a safe character, I had to cut my hair, build muscles, learn wrestling. And I remember when I was preparing for the film, I had this epiphany that this is what I want to do as an actor, I want to do different kinds of characters. I believe when you go out of your comfort zones and keep throwing challenges at yourself, that is the time you actually grow in life. And that kind of is a driving force for me as an actor.”
The actor also reveals that for the longest time in her career she had imposter syndrome. Sanya said, “For a good phase of my life as an actor, I was hard on myself. I didn’t like whatever I did. I was constantly critiquing myself and not giving myself the leeway to make mistakes. Now I’ve realized that it is ok even if I make mistakes, it doesn’t mean I will stop doing what I’m doing. It is a constant battle. But I’m much calmer now. Things changed after Paglait, it gave me a sense of confidence as an actor, and also the realization that everyone is making mistakes and I’m not the only one.”
