Mutant Mayhem’ Gets New Trailer, Moves Up Release Date
Written by on June 1, 2023
Back in March, Paramount and Nickelodeon turned heads when they released the stylish first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
Very few details about the film had been shared up to that point, and we were impressed with our first look at the film’s painterly aesthetic.
Today, Paramount released a second Mutant Mayhem trailer featuring more action, more characters, and a more detailed peek at the film’s plot. The trailer also confirms that Mutant Mayhem’s release has been moved from August 4 to August2.
TMNT: Mutant Mayhem details:
- Mutant Mayhem is directed by Jeff Rowe (co-director/co-writer, The Mitchells vs. the Machines; writer, Gravity Falls) and Kyler Spears (storyboard artist The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Amphibia) and written by Seth Rogen. It’s produced by Point Grey Productions, with animation handled by global animation studio Mikros Animation’s Paris and Montreal locations and Vancouver’s Cinesite. Paramount Pictures is distributing.
- Synopsis: “After years of being sheltered from the human world, the turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.”
- The basic plot points of the TMNT universe are fairly well established, but the new trailer offers up the first look at Superfly and the band of mutants that will play villains to the teenage turtles.
- Voice cast: Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Nicolas Cantu, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Post Malone, Brady Noon, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Maya Rudolph.
Cartoon Brew’s View: We said it in an earlier piece, but this film really looks like it has the potential to be a breakout hit this summer. The look is exciting and brings something new to the franchise, the sense of humor in today’s trailer feels spot on, and it’s kind of exciting to see the Turtles behave like actual teenagers. Boosting the film’s prospects even more, it will enjoy a massive kids and family competition-free window when it releases in August, much like The Super Mario Bros. Movie did when it hit theaters back on August 5.
