Marvel’s new documentary Stan Lee has received an impressive 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic rating ahead of its streaming release.
Movie critics had their chance to review the film before it arrives on Disney+ on Friday (June 16), and the consensus so far is overwhelmingly positive. It currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% after five reviews.
Should this high praise continue, the new Stan Lee documentary could well be on its way to receiving a coveted and rare “Certified Fresh” rating on the movie and TV review site.

The film pays tribute to the life and talent of the late Stan Lee, the comic book writer, editor, publisher and producer who is known for introducing audiences to the likes of Spider-Man, the X-Men, Thor and the Avengers.
“His origin story. His legacy. In his own words,” reads the tagline in the latest trailer reveal.
Take a look at a selection of Stan Lee reviews from around the globe below:
“Stan Lee is a fan-service documentary released by Disney+ (it drops on June 16), yet it’s very well-made, and watching it you’re confronted with a revelation: that the comic books that Lee began to create in 1961 didn’t just mark a seismic break with the comic books of the past.
“It does something that Lee himself would have appreciated: humanizes the creative superhero of comic books.”
“Though the movie may satisfy some obsessive fans and armchair historians, it feels more like a well-put-together tribute to the mastermind behind The Walt Disney Company’s biggest IP.”

“Considering the limitations that it’s working within, Gelb’s Stan Lee is a beautifully produced film that offers a good look at the most celebrated part of its subject’s career. But it’s far from the full story.”
“Best for people with limited Marvel knowledge who want to learn more about the man behind so many beloved characters.”
“Stan Lee’s story would be better as a two-part doc or doc series — 90 minutes is not enough.”
Stan Lee will be available on Disney+ from June 16.
