Anthony Mackie may have found the next Mad Max in Peacock series Twisted Metal.
Based on the popular PlayStation game series that originally launched in 1995, the 10-episode adaptation just released its first teaser trailer.
Having locked and loaded his shotgun, Mackie’s character John Doe is seen choosing a ‘Road Mix’ CD before breaking the fourth wall, saying to the camera: “Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.”

The teaser eventually cuts to a shot of a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, where an eccentric ice cream man definitely isn’t selling Cornettos.
Back when the Marvel actor signed up for the project, John Doe was described as a “smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives”, while a synopsis for the series teased: “With no memory of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.
“With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”
Scream’s Neve Campbell, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz, BoJack Horseman’s Will Arnett and Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Thomas Haden Church also feature in the cast.

“We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board,” PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash previously shared in a statement.
“His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.”
Twisted Metal premieres July 27 on Peacock in the US, while UK fans will have to wait a while longer for it to arrive on screen.
