Ke Huy Quan Surprises Harrison Ford at Indiana Jones 5 Premiere

The red-carpet premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny pairs Indy and Short Round one more time, ahead of the franchise-closing sequel’s theatrical release, in an emotional exchange.

Quan then slowly approaches Ford and puts his hands on his back, and when Ford realizes it’s his former co-star the two smile and share a warm embrace.
At the 95th Academy Awards in March, Ford and Quan hugged onstage after Ford presented the cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once with the Best Picture Oscar. Quan won earlier that night for Best Supporting Actor in the same film, marking a career resurgence for the Vietnamese-born star. Some Indiana Jones fans likened the moment to a full circle moment, calling back to the hug Indy and Short Round shared in 1984’s Temple of Doom.
Temple of Doom, the second film in the Indiana Jones franchise, saw the eponymous archeologist with a teenage sidekick, who helped him escape a compromising predicament during its opening sequence. Some hoped for Short Round to make a comeback in Dial of Destiny as it will be the last installment of the Indiana Jones film series, Quan confirmed he wouldn’t be a part of the sequel.
Indiana Jones and the Conclusion of a Series
Dial of Destiny will see some callbacks to previous franchise installments, while featuring a de-aged version of Ford created by advanced technology leveraging unused Lucasfilm footage of Indy. The film is set amid the space race of 1969, with Indy concerned about the U.S. government’s use of former Nazis for its space program. Indy is accompanied by his goddaughter Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) as he journeys in search of a mysterious dial known as the Antikythera.
Also starring alongside Ford in Dial of Destiny are Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies and long-time Indiana Jones franchise mainstay Karen Allen. Early reviews have been mixed at best, with the movie earning a disappointing 55% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes so far. Despite the panning from some critics, Dial of Destiny has been praised by former franchise director Steven Spielberg, and earned Ford an emotional standing ovation after its premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
As for Quan, he’s set to star in the sci-fi adventure flick The Electric State which is slated for release via Netflix on Apr. 26, 2024.
Dial of Destiny premieres in theaters across North America on June 30.
