Impossible 8 Filming Halts As Tom Cruise Movie Finally Finds an Impossible Hurdle To Overcome
Written by on June 10, 2023
Many movies have had it rough over the last few years, with the constant stop-start filming of the Covid pandemic and delayed releases. Having suffered one of the biggest delays with the release of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise is now ready to bring his other pushed-back offering of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One to cinemas this summer. However, when it comes to Dead Reckoning Part Two, the action hero is going to have be grounded once again, this time by the WGA writer’s strike.
M:I franchise director Christopher McQuarrie has aired his frustration as another massive roadblock has halted the filming of the next installment of the series, and just like the Covid pandemic, no one currently knows when things will be able to commence again. In the latest edition of Empire Magazine, McQuarrie addressed what he called the “unrelenting” string of delays that have hit the production of the two-parter movie that is thought to be Tom Cruise’s last as Ethan Hunt. The director said:
“It’s unrelenting. Behind each tsunami is another tsunami. We live in a state of 24-hour tsunami awareness. That’s just what we do.”
The director confirmed that the movie is currently 40% shot, which means there is still some way to go once filming is able to get underway again. With the film having set its release date for summer 2024, there could be another shifting wave heading to cinema release schedules as soon as the industry actually knows when it can restart itself for the second time in just a couple of years.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Will Deliver Some of The Biggest Stunts of the Franchise
The Mission: Impossible franchise has practically mirrored the Fast & Furious series, having been a reasonable box office hit, taken an almost impossible to recover from slide and then come back stronger than ever in its later installments. When it comes to the seventh outing for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, it looks like this is about to be one of his biggest and most dangerous missions to date…and that is just for Cruise performing the stunts.
Like most of the actor’s movies, Cruise was more than happy to throw himself into the role of Hunt, quite literally in some cases, to ensure that if this is the franchise drawing to a close, then it is going out with a bang and not a whimper. That has included Cruise leaping from planes, fighting on top of speeding trains and plenty of explosions and shootouts to boot.
Along with the epic stunts, M:I7 will also have an equally epic runtime of 156 minutes, testing the bladder as well as the nerves. Whether it will all be worth it is something that we will find out on July 12, when the film finally bursts into a bulky summer release schedule. Can Cruise pull off another Top Gun: Maverick style box office for a second year? That would probably be a lot more believable than some of his over the top stunts.
