Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has reached what will likely be its final milestone at the global box office, having now passed $800 million.
James Gunn’s emotional MCU swansong currently sits at $805.9 million worldwide, and should finish its theatrical run with about $825M. This means it will have surpassed the first GOTG ($770M), but won’t quite catch up to Vol. 2 ($869M).
Gunn has made it clear that this will be his last Guardians movie, but that doesn’t mean a different incarnation of the team won’t feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point with a new director. In the mid-credits scene, we find out that Rocket is now leading a new crew, and the final title card all-but confirms Chris Pratt’s eventual return as Star-Lord.
“In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past.” “Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

#GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 has topped $800 million global. It’s actually earned more than Guardians and Guardians 2 sans-Russia ($38M for Guardians and 27M for Guardians 2) and in current overseas exchange rates. In 2017 circumstances, it may have passed $900 million. #boxoffice pic.twitter.com/I1Q1STZJZP
