Fast X Star Has NSFW Response To “Dumbest Question” of Why The Fast and Furious Franchise Has Not Ended

Written by on May 29, 2023

The Fast & Furious franchise should have ended after its third movie. At least that’s what its box office seemed to suggest as the series was getting diminishing returns and reviews were not particularly helping. However, a few movies on from there, something changed and suddenly the franchise was pushing towards the $1 billion mark, which it did eventually hit with Furious 7 in 2015. Folllow up, The Fate of the Furious also topped $1 billion, while spin-off Hobbs & Shaw and 2021’s F9 both landed in strong $700 million brackets.

With Fast X now in theaters, having taken around $360 million to date, and two more movies seemingly being planned alongside potential spin-offs, franchise star Ludacris gave a very direct response to what he called the dumbest question in the world; why do they keep making Fast & Furious movies? He told the All the Smoke podcast:

“That’s the dumbest f——ng question in the world. I’m going to tell you why. Because no matter what industry we’re in; podcasts, music, movies – it’s all about a bottom line. It’s all about how much you spend compared to how much you make. We’re making billions of f——ng dollars. Bro, and I’m saying that like, I’m giving you my heart. I’m not trying to brag or nothing. So when you say – when some of ya’ll keep saying, “Why the f—k do ya’ll keep shooting these movies?” Let me tell you why. ‘Cause if you spend $200 million and you make a billion, who the f—k is going to tell you to stop shooting the movies when you making 800 muthaf——n’ million dollars. How?”

It is hard to argue with the logic behind that statement, but considering Fast X came with a reported budget of $340 million, the movie is going to struggle to be anywhere near as profitable as some of its predecessors.

When Will the Fast & Furious Franchise End?

Universal Pictures

That is a question that doesn’t really have an answer. As has been suggested, the franchise is still proving to be popular with audiences, and as long as that continues there will always be someone willing to finance the next movie. While the main Fast & Furious franchise seems to be coming to and after its 12th instalments – already expanded from its proposed Fast 11 finale – there is already talk of a female-led spin-off from the franchise being developed and a number of other characters all potentially getting their own movies or TV shows.

In short, there is very little chance that the Fast & Furious saga is going to simply park up and put on the brakes for good. At the most, it may have a short pit stop while deciding where its priorities lie, but the engines will still be revving up for a while yet.

Fast X is currently playing in theaters worldwide, with Fast 11 expected to arrive next year.
