Fast & Furious Box Office Closes In On James Bond, Matching 25 Movies With Just 11
Written by on May 26, 2023
Fast X has helped push the Fast & Furious franchise past a major box office milestone, putting the film series’ total earnings right behind James Bond. Since The Fast and the Furious came out in 2001, a new movie in the Fast & Furious series has hit theaters every few years. The release of Fast X marks the beginning of the end for Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto and his ever-growing family.
Now, Deadline reports that the release of Fast X has helped boost the Fast & Furious franchise past $7 billion in global box office earnings. This puts the Fast & Furious series just behind the James Bond franchise, which sits at about $7.8 billion in worldwide gross. The milestone also makes Fast & Furious the No. 5 highest-earning film franchise of all time.
How Much Will Fast X Earn At The Box Office?
While Fast X didn’t perform as well at the box office as the previous film, F9, the movie still garnered a sizable amount in its opening weekend. Fast X opened to $67 million at the domestic box office but a whopping $319 million worldwide. At the time of writing, Fast X has made $348 million at the box office worldwide.
Because Fast X had a strong opening weekend, the film will likely continue to do well as its theatrical run continues. The movie is the first entry in the final story to feature Dom and his family, with major characters like Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) having strong parts to play. Since the movie promises to be the beginning of the end for the Fast saga, it may draw high box office numbers for those who want to see how the franchise will end.
Fast X also needs high box office numbers to make a profit due to its $340 million budget. Given its strong opening weekend, Fast X will likely be a box-office success by the time its theatrical release is over. With Fast X sequels already planned, it’s possible the Fast & Furious franchise will overtake James Bond‘s No. 4 spot for highest-grossing movie franchises in the near future.
