Dodgeball 2 Has Everybody Excited
Written by on June 13, 2023
Action movie star Chuck Norris addresses whether he’ll once more join the American Dodgeball Association of America in a cameo for the upcoming Dodgeball 2. The in-development sequel is a continuation of the 2004 sports comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, which saw Vince Vaughn’s humble small-time gym owner bring together a group of misfits to face Ben Stiller’s egotistical gym mogul in a high-stakes dodgeball tournament to save his beloved business. Dodgeball featured a number of recognizable cameos alongside Norris, with surprising actors playing themselves and characters within the film.
As reported by ComicBook.com, Norris addressed whether he will appear in the recently announced Dodgeball 2 to continue his surprisingly impactful cameo role. In the 2004 film, Norris plays himself as a member of the ADAA’s judging committee in the film’s final match, where he gives the deciding vote to reinstate Peter LaFleur’s (Vaughn) underdog team Average Joe’s following their forfeit of the game, leading to LaFleaur and Norris trading thanks. While Norris has yet to receive a call to return, he is more than eager to join the committee again. Check out Norris’ full response below:
I haven’t gotten a call about it yet, but it’d be a lot of fun to make a return appearance.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story Threw In A Number Of Surprising Cameos
One of Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story‘s funniest elements is the number of recognizable faces who take on small roles in the film, leaving audiences surprised when pop culture icons appear out of the blue. Within the film’s high-stakes dodgeball championships, one of Average Joe’s first opponents is an intimidating German team, who lose to LaFleur’s team despite their unfortunate uniform switch-up. While the Joes progress to the next round, their opponents are left weeping before an enraged, whip-wielding David Hasselhoff cameoing as their coach, not only cursing out the team in German, but also holding a photo from his singing career as he tells his team how they brought dishonor upon themselves.
As the tournament continues throughout Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, the film’s cameos become more surprising, as former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong has a chance meeting with LaFleur during the latter’s lowest point, pushing him to get back in the tournament and outfox Stiller’s White Goodman. The tournament’s final match is also watched over by a highly recognizable sci-fi icon, as Star Trek‘s William Shatner portrays the deciding Dodgeball Chancellor alongside Norris. While Dodgeball‘s cameos may not be as surprising upon a rewatch, seeing these pop culture show up are fun details for audiences to keep an eye out for.
Norris’ approval of the Average Joes and his thumbs up is one of Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story‘s lasting images, having become a frequently used meme. Even though Norris’ cameo is a brief gag, it’s good to hear that the action star is open to making similar appearances, creating further continuity between the films. But while Norris may be eager to Join Dodgeball 2, it’ll be all the more fun to see what new cameos the sequel can offer and if they’ll match the 2004 film’s surprise appearances.
