‘Blonde’ on Worst Picture and Worst Director Shortlist — World of Reel

Written by on January 8, 2023

The Razzies are a total joke of an awards show. The nominees are determined by members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation. All you have to do to join the voting body is pay a fee ranging from $40 (for two people) to $500 (lifetime membership). You don’t even need to have seen all the movies to vote.

So, unidentified voters, with unknown qualifications, have the power to take down any movie, actor and actress they dislike. Remember, this is the same group that infamously nominated Stanley Kubrick as 1980’s Worst Director for “The Shining.”

Razzie 2023 voting ballot options leaked this evening and, of course, they’ve decided to dunk on Andrew Dominik and “Blonde,” specifically pointing out in a category that he has “issues with women.”

“Blonde” is part of the shortlist for Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay.

Critics were inevitably going to be split on “Blonde.” However, some of them also had their knives out against Dominik for various reasons, one of which is based on the controversial interviews he’s been giving to promote the film, and the other is his utter refusal to portray Marilyn Monroe as a symbol of female empowerment in “Blonde.”

I quite liked “Blonde” when I saw it in September. It was bold, messy, surreal, passionate and utterly fascinating. A lot of our readers fell hard for it as well.

In case you’re wondering, this year’s 9 officially shortlisted Worst Picture nominees are “Blacklight,” “Blonde,” The Bubble,” “Pinocchio,” “Good Mourning,” “The King’s Daughter,” “Me Time,” “Morbius,” and “Poker Face.”
