ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

Following that sneak preview of Kang’s Time Chair in recent promo art, Empire has provided a hi-resolution look at Kang the Conquerer (Jonathan Majors) sitting on his Time Chair throne and he looks even more intimidating than you could imagine.

Speaking with Kevin Feige, the magazine learned more about why the Marvel Studios President felt Kang was the perfect choice for the Multiverse Saga’s ultimate Big Bad. “He is the obvious choice as you’re dealing with the Multiverse. Kang allowed us to do a new kind of Big Bad. He’s a different type of villain, warring amongst themselves as much as he’s warring with our heroes.

As for his master plan, it’s relatively simple. He wants to rule everything and everyone across all realities, across all multiverses, but unfortunately for him, he’ll first have to defeat every other version of himself as well as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

After coming in extremely clutch against Thanos (Josh Brolin), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) will be the first of the Avengers to encounter the all-powerful Conquerer in the Quantum Realm, but before they come to blows, the recent trailer revealed that he’ll actually attempt to strike a deal with him, which we can likely expect to go awry.

Feige adds, “Kang’s a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back. He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and anywhen he wants if he can get it online. If only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles.

Kang actor Jonathan Majors teases how He Who Remains was only the beginning of his MCU journey and that Kang is a whole new beast entirely, with a singular goal that certainly suggests that war is on the horizon.

I met with the Loki team first. Then Peyton came on and we had our chat for the film. He gave me a few reference points – Alexander The Great, things like that… Kang adds tonal diversity, real conflict, and real friction. You’re being introduced to a new vibration in the MCU. There’s conflict – not just mano-a-mano, not just hero and villain, but ‘your way of life’ and ‘my way of life’. I’m coming for it. We’re in battle here.

The cast features Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne/Wasp), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet van Dyne), Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), and Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror).

Additionally, David Dastmalchian is now playing a character named Veb, while Katy O’Brian is Jentorra, William Jackson Harper is Quaz, and Bill Murray is Lord Krylar.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17.
