Agents of Shield Star Addresses Potential MCU Return

Written by on May 29, 2023

Agents of SHIELD star Chloe Bennet addresses a possible return to the role that made her famous, Daisy Johnson, aka Quake. AOS ended its run in 2020, and since then speculation has run rampant as to if and when the show’s biggest superhero could appear in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series was a direct spinoff of the MCU, centering on Clark Gregg’s beloved Agent Phil Coulson. Though at the time the audience was told that it was directly connected to the MCU, the films never acknowledged the events of the show.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Bennet was asked if she was open to returning to Marvel if she were to pick up the phone to find CEO Kevin Feige on the other line with a pitch to bring her back. Though there have been possible hints at a return in Bennet’s own posts on social media, she denied that her return is imminent while still expressing her affection for the role.

Chloe Bennet: Of course, I would be open to it. Listen, there’s a lot of stuff around that. I so deeply love SHIELD fans, because it’s their tenacity that got the show on air to begin with.

I have not once been approached or asked or involved in anything after I’ve wrapped SHIELD, and I am not involved in anything that is coming out. I’ve not been asked, but I would be more than excited to put on the suit again. Of course, Daisy’s a big part of who I am. So, I would love to, but I have not been communicated with.

Why The MCU Needs Quake & Other Agents of SHIELD Characters In Phase 5

Agents of SHIELD aired from 2013 to 2020, and spanned the era of MCU events from The Avengers at the end of Phase 1 through Phase 3’s Avengers: Infinity War and the effects of Thanos’ snap. By this point, the two storylines had completely separated when inconsistencies in storytelling made it clear Marvel Television was no longer in the loop on storytelling decisions being made at Marvel Studios. Tensions between Feige and the head of Marvel Entertainment, Ike Perlmutter, were well known, and in December 2019 Marvel Television was folded into Marvel Studios. SHIELD ended its run in August of 2020, having never been acknowledged by the films.

In the years since Marvel Studios took full creative control of the film and television series, slow progress has been made to fold in some of the beloved characters from previous television series into the MCU. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock made his first film appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021 and donned the Daredevil uniform in the Disney+ series She-Hulk in August 2022. He’ll continue the role in a new series for Disney+, Daredevil: Born Again in 2024. Though unconfirmed, Jessica Jones’ Kristen Ritter and Luke Cage’s Mike Colter recently posted Instagram stories hinting at possible returns for the two beloved characters.

Under these circumstances, it seems like a perfect time to bridge the gap and bring characters from the longest-running Marvel series so far, Agents of SHIELD, into the MCU fold. Though Bennet denies contact with anyone at the studio about a return, it’s possible that she’s unable to reveal information because of an NDA. Phases 5 and 6 have a number of projects that seem perfect places for Quake to make a surprise appearance, including Secret Invasion or The Marvels. A broader move could be made to bring Quake and other Agents of SHIELD characters in via the Multiversal tentpole of Avengers: Secret Wars. Either way, bringing Quake into the films would be a good way to recognize the series’ passionate fanbase and bring a fan-favorite character onto the big screen.
