Written by on June 4, 2023

Daniel Kaluuya, the voice actor for Spider-Punk/Hobie Brown in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, wants to see Snoop Dogg and Bill Murray in the film’s planned sequel Beyond the Spider-Verse.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Kaluuya talked about his experience in playing the punk-rock web-slinger for Across the Spider-Verse. When Beyond the Spider-Verse — part two of Across the Spider-Verse — was brought up, Kaluuya shared his wish list of celebrity cameos for the 2024 film. “Snoop Dogg! Spider-Dogg – D, O, double G!” Kaluuya said. “He would shut the shit down. He’s got the best voice in modern society, let’s keep it real. Or, Bill Murray — I don’t know how you get him in it but my guy Bill has got to be involved as well. If I could work with Bill Murray in any shape or form, I’d be a happy man.”

The Amazing Cast of the Spider-Verse

Across the Spider-Verse is filled with celebrity cameos for mainstream audiences and die-hard Spider-Man fans alike. Sony Pictures confirmed that comedian Andy Samberg provides the voice of Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider in the movie. Samberg is a member of The Lonely Island, the comedic group behind “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were involved in The Lego Movie, are also involved in the Spider-Verse films. Voice actor Josh Keaton reprises his role as Spider-Man from the short-lived but popular Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon that ran for two seasons from March 8, 2008, to Nov. 18, 2009.

Earlier in the interview, Kaluuya talked about the process of finding Spider-Punk’s voice. “They sat me down and were like, ‘we want you, so we want you to bring you to it.'” Kaluuya said. “They asked me ‘what would you say here, what is the real word that would be used here,’ giving me free rein and allowing me to use my background in improv. We were exploring the voice as there hasn’t been a narrative version of Spider-Punk before in film or television. So, it was a discovery, and we found something that was a melting pot of all that London is but also the attitude that someone who was a punk or from Camden would have, without being watered down or becoming too commercial.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters. The film is projected to earn $150 million for its global opening. Beyond the Spider-Verse is currently set for March 29, 2024.
