‘Apple is working on striking Siri change’
Anyone in the Apple ecosystem will undoubtedly be familiar with Siri. Apple’s virtual assistant can do or look up a lot for you and wakes up when you say “Hey Siri”. But Apple wants to streamline that further, Bloomberg reports.
“Hey Siri, call mom” relatively quickly becomes “Siri, call mom.” Apple is said to be working on making the word “hey” unnecessary when you have a request for Siri. Internally, Apple would already extensively test it among employees.

Those extensive tests are also necessary, because the change is not as easy as it seems. If the Siri command is changed to just “Siri”, the assistant must be able to understand that word in all kinds of different accents and dialects. That’s much easier with the two words “Hey Siri”.

Still, it has its advantages to shorten Siri activation. For example, it becomes a lot faster to ask several questions in succession. Amazon’s Alexa has had that advantage for a while now. With Google’s assistant you still have to say “hey” or “OK”, but for follow-up questions you don’t have to say an activation sentence at all.
When is Apple going to abolish “Hey Siri”?
Bloomberg is said to have heard that Apple plans to introduce the shorter Siri trigger sometime next year. It may only be 2024 before Siri can recognize her own name well enough. It also sometimes goes wrong with “Hey Siri”, so it will have to be seen whether only “Siri” is actually an improvement.
