Hello all. It’s me, Danielle Fallon-O’Leary, your host of the Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what’s happening locally.

First, today’s weather:

Intervals of clouds and sun. High: 86 Low: 71.

Here are the top five stories today in Cartersville:

  1. The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman suspected of theft in the Cartersville Cracker Barrel parking lot. On Jul. 2, the unknown suspect reportedly entered a victim’s vehicle, taking their Apple ear pods and a debit card before making purchases with the card at a Kennesaw gas station. Anyone with information should contact the department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 770-382-5050 ext. 6025. (The Georgia Sun)
  2. Next Sunday, Jul. 17 marks the Colombia Independence Day Festival in downtown Cartersville. Head to Friendship Plaza at 2:00 p.m. to enjoy the free festivities, including authentic Colombian food, live music, and a DJ. Those who are interested in sponsoring the event can call 404-580-4237 or email interculturalfestcs@gmail.com. (Cartersville-Bartow Chamber via Facebook)
  3. A beloved Bartow County figure has sadly passed away after an extended illness. Walter Houston Suggs worked for Bartow County Parks and Recreation for 35 years, including as its director, and served as the National Treasurer for Dizzy Dean Baseball. His Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at the Houston Suggs Youth Facility on Sunday, Jul. 17. (Daily Tribune)
  4. Local teens will have the opportunity to get some hands-on technology experience this summer. HITOWER MEDIA will be hosting a WordPress Website Development for Beginners camp, aimed toward beginners ages 13-18. More information on the program is available here. (Cartersville Patch)
  5. This past Independence Day marked one of the deadliest driving weekends in Georgia’s recent history. State public safety officials report that 21 people died over the three-day travel period. One fatality was recorded in Cartersville, with another in Bartow County. (Now Habersham)
