Andrea Greco, science and social studies teacher at Louisville Elementary, the Canton Repository Teacher of the Month for January. January 11, 2021.

NAME – Andrea Greco

SCHOOL – Louisville Elementary

RESIDENCE – Louisville

HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER – Louisville High School

COLLEGE – Bachelor, Kent State University; master, Ashland University.

FAMILY – Husband, Mark Greco, children, Alexis, Lauren and Connor Wendt, and step-children, Danae and Daniel Greco.

WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU TEACH? – Fifth-grade science and social studies.

NOMINATION – “Our Teacher of the Month is Andrea Greco. Mrs. Greco creates an environment where all students are loved and cared for. Her science activities are creative and engaging for all students. Mrs. Greco is a team player and is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. We are truly blessed to have Andrea Greco on our LES team.”

WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? – I love to teach, but I also love to learn-and teaching offers lots of opportunities for learning! Each day is a new adventure and is never boring! The “you can’t make this stuff up” stories keeps me on my toes, and offers the humor that is needed in education. But most importantly are the many lives I have touched and continue to touch. My life has been enriched from each and every child that has walked through my door. My experiences in the classroom have helped me become the person I am today.

WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB? – Teaching is one of the toughest jobs with today’s culture, rapidly changing technology, and added demands of the profession. Teaching takes patience, dedication, passion and the ability to do more with less.

WHAT SECRET TO SUCCESS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH STUDENTS? – No matter how far you have fallen or how hopeless your situation may seem, I am on your side to help pick yourself up, and help you  make a fresh start. I want students to know that they are enough and capable of great things. I will be there alongside them and will be rooting for them to become all that they are meant to be.

IS TEACHING KIDS THE SAME TODAY AS WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED? (Why or why not?) – Teaching today looks very different from when I started. Twenty-eight years ago, students ran out to leave school. Today, students run into the building knowing it is a safe place of hope, where they are loved and taken care of.

YOUR STUDENTS WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT YOU … – … I enjoy visiting historical sites. I was honored to be able to travel with a ‘Teaching American History’ group to visit the battle sites of the Civil War.

WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TALENT? – I enjoy cooking and experimenting in the kitchen!  Feeding others makes my heart happy!

IF YOU WEREN’T A TEACHER, YOU’D BE … – … working at St. Jude’s. Working with childhood cancer patients is my passion.

AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RELAX? – My favorite way to unwind and relax is one of the simplest, just spending time outside.
