Facebook owner Meta to open $800 million data center in Central Texas
Written by ABC AUDIO on March 31, 2022
Facebook’s parent company, Meta, on Thursday announced plans to open an $800 million data center in Central Texas.
The nearly 900,000-square-foot center will be located in Temple, an hour north of Austin, and is set to begin construction this spring. Meta said it is expecting up to 1,250 construction workers to help build the center and will employ about 100 people for operational jobs.
This will be the second Meta data center in Texas — the first was built in Fort Worth — and the 21st in the world.

Temple’s location between Austin and Dallas makes it a “prime” spot to thrive, a news release said. Meta worked with the city of Temple, its mayor, Temple Economic Development Corporation and other local departments in order to make this investment and work on its sustainability.
Gov. Greg Abbott said the state is excited to welcome Meta and the new job opportunities the company will bring.
“Meta’s continued expansion in Texas is a testament to the exceptional business climate and skilled, diverse workforce we have here in the Lone Star State,” Abbott said in the news release.
Adrian Cannady, president and CEO of Temple Economic Development Corporation, said he believes the data center will be a positive impact on the community because of “Meta’s commitment to invest in local schools, nonprofits and community projects.”
Since 2017, Meta has provided more than $2.6 million in grants to schools, small businesses and local organizations in Fort Worth.
