Yesterday, Insomniac Games and PlayStation announced that Spider-Man 2 will be released on October 20.
The developers recently explained that they wouldn’t announce a release date until they could be confident in meeting it, so we’re taking this news as a good sign. As for when we’ll next get a new look at the sequel, next month’s San Diego Comic-Con seems likely.
While we still don’t have a synopsis for the game, a post on the PlayStation Blog (via GameFragger.com) reiterates that, “players will get to experience Marvel’s New York as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales…the main storyline of the game will have you take control of both Spider-Men at different points of the campaign.”
“In the open world, you will be able to switch nearly instantly between them as you explore Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Both Spider-Men have stories and missions in the world exclusive to each of them.”
We know Venom, Lizard, and Kraven the Hunter will be among those who threaten the two Spider-Men and Marvel’s New York in Spider-Man 2, and a couple of those bad guys are highlighted in the concept art and screenshot below.
In the former, we see Peter Parker and Miles Morales battling a Venom who is considerably larger than they are (it’s already been confirmed that’s not Eddie Brock wearing the suit). Look closely, though, and you’ll notice a billboard advertising the “Emily-May Foundation,” a nod to Emily Osborn and May Parker. Is Peter working with Norman Osborn?
As for Kraven, he looks like quite the powerhouse and should prove to be more than a match for both web-slingers, especially with an entire army of well-trained goons at his side.
