Evil Dead Rise takes the iconic horror franchise from the woods into the city as Beth (Lily Sullivan) visits her estranged sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), a single mother living in a condemned apartment block in LA.
When the city is hit by an earthquake, a way into a secret vault underneath the apartments is unveiled allowing a mysterious book of the dead to be uncovered that unleashes flesh-possessing demons that make a beeline for Ellie.
Despite originally being set to be straight to streaming, Evil Dead Rise secured a cinema release and grossed $100 million at the worldwide box office by the start of May, making it the most successful film in the Evil Dead franchise.
Original Ash Williams star Bruce Campbell– who acted as an executive producer on Rise alongside Evil Dead –director Sam Raimi and producer Robert Tapert took to social media to address the achievement, tweeting: “Thanks, Deadites!”.

Director Cronin previously spoke about why he decided to shake up the franchise and set it in a new location. Speaking to SFX, he revealed he “wanted to do something new” and that he would have turned down the movie if it was set in a cabin once again.
“As much as I said I always wanted to make an Evil Dead movie, if the guys had put a script in front of me and said: ‘Here we go: it’s at the cabin, it’s with Ash,’ I probably would have said no, because I want to tell my own stories. But they didn’t want that either.”
Evil Dead Rise is released for home premiere on June 7. It will be released for digital download on July 14, and physically on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on July 17.
