Actress Sasha Calle, who plays the new Supergirl in next month’s “The Flash” feature, says she got a stamp of approval over taking on the role from none other than former Superman actor Henry Cavill.

Speaking with EW ahead of the film’s release, the “Young and the Restless” actress revealed that she met Cavill months after the film was done and said:

“I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience.”

Cavill first appeared as Superman in 2013’s “Man of Steel” before reprising it for 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” 2017’s “Justice League,” and a brief cameo in 2022’s “Black Adam”.

Cavill doesn’t appear in “The Flash” but apparently had seen the movie when they met, and Calle asked him what his thoughts were on her playing the role:

“I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?’ And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel.”

After James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the new DC Studios chiefs last year, the plan became to reboot the Superman character and so in December came the news that Cavill would not be returning as Superman which is being recast with a younger actor.

Whether Calle will be back is not clear at present. When she was originally cast, Calle also got the approval of TV’s Supergirl, actress Melissa Benoist in a social media exchange between the pair.

“The Flash” is slated to hit cinemas on June 16th.
