Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 News Has Fans Surprised And Excited

Lucasfilm heads say there is no plan for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, but its director says “never say never” about the possibility of another season.
Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow created a disturbance in the Force recently when she discussed the potential for another season of the Star Wars series on an episode of the Crew Call podcast. According to Deadline Chow had many things to say about the arduous journey the Kenobi series took from concept to screen and admitted that although there are currently no plans for an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, fans should “never say never.”
Originally conceived as a movie before being retrofitted into a limited series for Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi faced many production challenges, mostly due to COVID. Chow, who directed all six episodes, described the production as “pretty intense” and recalled having to start pre-production prep from Toronto despite the plans for the series to be shot in London.
Ultimately Obi-Wan was shot in LA during the early pre-vaccine days of the pandemic. It was particularly stressful on Chow due to one of her leads being a child, one of the groups most vulnerable to the virus. Luckily Vivien Lyra Blair, Kenobi’s young Leia, didn’t get sick, nor did anyone else for that matter, something Chow beamed about. “We didn’t get shut down,” the director said proudly.
As far as Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is concerned, Deborah Chow was hesitant to make any promises. “This was conceived as a limited series; it is closed,” said Chow before following up her initial statement by explaining that there is a decade between the ending of Kenobi and the beginning of A New Hope, leaving plenty of opportunities to tell the further adventures of Ben Kenobi, Jedi outcast. Fans have taken Chow’s words “never say never” to heart, choosing to interpret the director’s answers regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 in a positive fashion.
While Star Wars purists may balk at the idea that Obi-Wan Kenobi did anything other than sulk in a cave, talk to ghosts, and stalk Luke from afar for 18 years, most fans recognize the fun story potential that an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 brings with it. For instance, a second season of the Disney+ series could be the perfect opportunity to bring Jedi survivor Kal Kestis into the world of live-action.
Thanks to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor we know that Kal is active around 9 BBY—that’s nine years before the Battle of Yavin, the climactic battle at the end of A New Hope for all the non-nerds out there—the same timeframe in which an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 would take place. Since Kal also has experience dealing with the Empire’s evil inquisitors, he could be a powerful ally for Ben Kenobi. And Kal Kestis is far from the only potential guest star if a second season is put into development.
Non-Jedi Ahsoka Tano is alive and well during this period in the Star Wars universe and could easily cross paths with her old friend at some point. An even more fun prospect could be an appearance from fellow Jedi-in-exile Yoda. If Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 can show one Jedi breaking his self-imposed solitude to galavant across the galaxy, why not two? In fact, Yoda wouldn’t even need to leave Dagobah.
Now that The Last Jedi has brought Force projection into the canon, there’s no reason that Yoda couldn’t project himself into Obi-Wan’s hut every now and then for a chat. Thanks to the sudden appearance of Kenobi’s former master Qui-Gon Jinn at the end of Season 1, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 could feature Ben, Yoda, and Qui-Gon all together discussing the future of the galaxy.
Talk about fan service. An episode like that would be a wet dream for the Star Wars fandom. Here’s hoping!
