Captain America’s Avengers 5 Role Replacement Won’t Be Sam Wilson

Although Sam Wilson chose to wield the shield as the MCU’s next Captain America, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be the team leader in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. In the Infinity Saga, Steve Rogers’ Captain America was the de facto leader of the Avengers, respected for his military background and keen insight on the battlefield. However, the next iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes may have a new leader rather than another Captain America.

According to Anthony Mackie, the Sam Wilson actor doesn’t think his new Captain America will lead the Avengers. As Mackie points out, “Sam is the only character without superpowers. He’s just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos”. It certainly seems as though Mackie believes other heroes would be more capable leading a future roster of Avengers in The Kang Dynasty rather than Sam who doesn’t have any inherent superpowers (though one could argue that his grounded perspective would make him perfect).

Who Will Lead The Avengers In Kang Dynasty?

If Sam Wilson doesn’t end up leading the Avengers in The Kang Dynasty, one has to wonder who will lead Earth’s Mightiest instead. Thankfully, there are a handful of exciting options such as Captain Marvel. Having recently become the leader of the current Avengers roster in the comics, there would certainly be some interesting synergy that could be valuable for both Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment as a whole. Additionally, perhaps one of the three remaining original Avengers (Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye) could take charge given their tenure and experience.

However, there are more dynamic leader options such as Spider-Man, especially if his new status quo after the events of No Way Home is still intact. Perhaps Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has been forced to mature significantly on his own thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell and its cost where Peter was forgotten by the entire world. At any rate, it will be interesting to see an Avengers roster where Captain America is just another team member, rather than the default leader simply because he’s Captain America.

As it stands, an official roster of heroes has yet to assemble in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame. However, plenty of potential recruits have since been introduced such as She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, Ironheart, and more. Likewise, there’s still a strong number of heroes from the Infinity Saga who would answer the call. When a new team comes together in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it’s hard to imagine Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, War Machine, Ant-Man, Wasp, and more not stepping up. As such, Sam Wilson’s Captain America will undoubtedly stand with the New Avengers as well, ready to follow whoever fills Steve Rogers’ leadership shoes in the MCU.
