Elizabeth Olsen Reacts to Fantastic Four Recasting Rumor

Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Elizabeth Olsen offers a surprised response to widespread speculation her Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness co-star John Krasinski will be replaced in the anticipated Fantastic Four film reboot.
Olsen spoke on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast about rumors Krasinski’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic will be recast in Fantastic Four despite fans and critics liking his take in the Doctor Strange sequel. During the interview, Horowitz mentioned reports Star Wars franchise actor Adam Driver would replace Krasinski as Mister Fantastic in the MCU. Olsen questioned what it meant for Krasinski’s character before stating, “Oh, because different multiverses? Okay.” After Horowitz reaffirmed Olsen and listeners that “anyone can still play” the role, Olsen excitingly replied, “I understand now!”

During Multiverse of Madness, Olsen’s Scarlet Witch killed Mister Fantastic by stripping him apart in a matter of seconds before he even got to showcase his superpowers, a move that shocked MCU fans. Following Mister Fantastic’s slaying, speculation emerged regarding whether Krasinski would continue playing Mister Fantastic after his relatively brief appearance in the movie or if the role would be recast. Last December, Krasinski strongly hinted his role in Multiverse of Madness was a one-off while denying he engaged in any Fantastic Four talks with Marvel.
Since the start of the year, multiple actors have been linked to potentially playing Reed Richards in Fantastic Four, including Slumdog Millionaire and Skins star Dev Patel. However, more recent reports suggest Driver is the favorite to play the Fantastic Four founder, having previously played Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker throughout the Star Wars franchise. Driver is also known for playing Maurizio Gucci in House of Gucci and is a two-time Academy Award nominee.
Previous iterations of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four film series were played by Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd in the eponymous 2005 movie and 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer. In the widely panned 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, Miles Teller played the character before Krasinski appeared as the group’s leader in the Doctor Strange sequel.
Fantastic Four Casting Rumors
There have been several casting rumors ever since Marvel confirmed the Fantastic Four reboot. Emma Stone was linked to the role of Sue Storm before turning it down, while Antonio Banderas is rumored to play the cosmic villain Galactus in the movie. Additionally, Margot Robbie and Mila Kunis have been speculated for Fantastic Four‘s cast, though Kunis later denied reports she would feature and claimed she knew who would be in it.
Fantastic Four is set to open in theaters across North America on Feb. 14, 2025.
