Record heat hitting Northeast and Midwest: What to expect

(NEW YORK) — Record heat has moved from the Southwest to the Midwest and Northeast, where temperatures could approach 90 degrees in some cities on Thursday.

On Wednesday, more than a dozen record highs were reported, including Burlington, Colorado, which hit a whopping 95 degrees; Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which reached 92 degrees; and Minneapolis which recorded 88 degrees.

On Thursday, temperatures in the Northeast and the Midwest will be nearly 30 degrees above normal for the middle of April.

Record highs are expected Thursday in Minneapolis and New York City, which are both forecast to reach a scorching 90 degrees.

Philadelphia and Hartford, Connecticut, could reach record highs of 89 degrees while Chicago could see a record high of 84 degrees.

This April heat wave will continue on Friday with more record highs possible.
