Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’ Set to Premiere at Cannes — World of Reel

This must be the first photo we’ve had that hints at Emma Stone’s look in “Poor Things”.

Some readers have been wondering what had been going on with Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” and why it’s been delayed for this long, but at least we now know where it’ll be having its world premiere.

A French paper is reporting that Lanthimos’s film will screen at this coming May’s Cannes Film Festival. This will be a big get for Thierry Fremaux, as we understand he will have a lot of other big-named titles to choose from this year.

Most had predicted a 2022 release “Poor Things”. Now it’s come to the point where Lanthimos has two new movies in the can and ready to go this year, the other one titled “AND” — will that one also be at Cannes?

A decent guess on the “Poor Things” delay is that it’s probably a combination of Searchlight having had too many 2022 movies and post-production visual effects taking a lengthy time to complete. Regardless, the film, starring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, is said to be inspired by “Frankenstein.”

Searchlight will have to decide how they’ll market these two Lanthimos films. Which stands the best chance at awards? A Cannes debut for “Poor Things” surely means it’s the better of the two? Who knows.

If you remember, Lanthimos’ last film, 2018’s “The Favorite,” was an absolute success with Oscar, critics and audiences. That one premiered at Venice. We’ve been highly anticipating what Lanthimos was going to next ever since.
