China brushes off US attempts to revive military-to-military dialogue

A report by Bloomberg published on Tuesday revealed that the US is struggling to resume military-to-military dialogue with China since the heads of state last met in November 2022. 

According to US defense sources, Beijing has reportedly brushed off US efforts to revive dialogue on crucial security issues. 

The report states that the goal is to avoid a potential conflict to erupt between the US and China, but that is questionable considering that the US has so far done nothing more than initiate a series of offensive moves and provocations against China. 

The two global powers ceased to engage in talks after former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi violated the One China Principle. 

Last year, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on November 15 to discuss several issues pertaining to the Taiwan Strait. 

Later that month, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe in Cambodia to discuss the Sino-American defense relations, as well as regional and global security issues.

Secretary Austin stressed the necessity of maintaining open lines of communication between the US and China.

But Beijing has rejected attempts to do so for defense-related reasons.

What this report tells us is either that US fears are mounting in light of rising tensions with China, or that the Pentagon is attempting to establish spy channels to track down developments in the Chinese military.

The report undermined China’s rights to defend its territorial sovereignty by stating that the Chinese military has acted more recklessly toward the US since relations began to deteriorate. 

Despite this, the two countries continue to maintain open lines of communication via diplomatic channels. 

On Tuesday, sources reported that China has invited US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for an official visit.
