WHAT WE’RE TRACKING: 

A compact upper level wave will bring a front across the area today. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along this feature as it slowly moves across the area later today into Sunday morning.

The better chances for storms will be in the evening and overnight hours. With ample moisture in place ahead of this front, we could see some locally heavy rain through tomorrow morning. While the front is generally slow moving, any brief training of storms can have the potential to produce higher rainfall amounts. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop along and behind the front today and tonight.  SPC has the Crossroads in a Marginal Risk Area for isolated severe weather, mainly in the form of damaging wind gusts and possible hail on either side of the front.

Some lingering showers may be seen over the area, especially near the coast after sunrise on Sunday.  Dry weather returns for the entire area by Sunday afternoon. Some cooler highs will be seen Sunday, generally ranging from the low 60s to low 70s

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%..

Sunday: Cloudy through mid-morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 67. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.  Chance or rain is 30% before noon.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

This upcoming week will see a couple of disturbances moves through the region. The first will be a weak upper level trough moving across Texas on Monday that spawns a coastal low in the western Gulf bringing a slight chance for isolated showers and a few thunderstorms to the area starting around daybreak and persisting through the day.  The rain chances will be higher along the coast. High pressure builds in on Tuesday, so expect a relatively nice day on Tuesday.

A stronger upper level low moving into Northern California will eventually make its way into the Crossroads later in the week.  An increase in moisture and warm air will begin on Wednesday as a surface low begins to deepen in the Central Plains. An associated cold front moves through our area on Thursday bringing our next chance of showers and thunderstorms. High pressure builds in the wake of this system on Friday, bringing us a return to pleasant, cooler weather.

With cloud cover and precipitation around, high temperatures on Monday will be in the mid to upper 60s with lows Monday night in the low to mid 50s. Sunny skies on Tuesday will lead to afternoon temperatures climbing into the low 70s. The warming trend continues on Wednesday due to that increased southerly flow bringing temperatures into the mid to upper 70s. We will be ending the week like how we started the week with highs in the low to mid 60s.

Monday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. South wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 48.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 70 and a low near 40.
