Does this artist need an introduction? He has been entertaining us for no less than 46 years. That’s not a typo. His career is approaching 50 years. And for someone who basically ‘only’ produces funny songs and parodies, that’s pretty special. I like it myself. You can do anything with it. Make fun of the original artist, come up with something with a similar title or make it something completely different. And who is better at this than ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic?

The very first song I heard from him was Fat, which is of course a parody of Michael Jackson’s Bad. If I remember correctly, my first thought was that the video looked very familiar to me. I was still quite young and I didn’t really follow much music then. In today’s society this would no longer be possible or allowed, unfortunately.

Michael Jackson and food turned out to be a good combination, because this song was on an earlier album. Very bland, but pretty fun.

If you do the King Of Pop, the Queen can’t be left behind, right? To be honest, I’ve never really been a fan of Madonna. I liked this parody, just like the original.

Around the turn of the century I attempted to study economics in Rotterdam. During the breaks I often went to the center with a few classmates. At that time, the Virgin Megastore was still there. They had so many CDs, there was everything you’d never even heard of. At the entrance were a number of listening columns, which contained about six CDs. One of them was the new album of ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. I knew that one from back in the day. I didn’t even know he was still at it. I just wanted to know if he still had it.

Basically this is just a summary of the movie Star Wars Episode I: The Pantom Menace and for me the best song on the album. American Pie is really perfect for this.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – The Saga Begins

The Offspring’s original song was also a bit bland, so it’s nice to see Al just keep going.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Pretty Fly For A Rabbi

In the 90s, almost everyone watched Jerry Springer and his quirky dudes. Thought those on the show were already weird, Al comes up with much worse.

Every album has a polka compilation on it and I think this is the best. I think it’s because of the songs from the 90s.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Polka Power!

When you read the horoscopes, you often see interfaces with multiple zodiac signs. This horoscope is very eeeeehh… oddly specific. There is also a World Of Warcraft parody made, which I like a lot myself.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Your Horoscope For Today

That’s The World Of Warcraft That You Play!

Personally, this has never been a favorite of mine, but it was quite a popular song, as was the original. I find all the references funny.

So, time for a hillbil song. At least…?

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Truck Drivin’ Song

Albuquerque is one of those songs that really isn’t about anything. Over eleven minutes long. Awesome!

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Albuquerque

Next week a band with a simple, but tricky name.

Alfred has been around for so long that he has produced quite a few songs. Below are a ‘few’ of my favorites. I even removed a few because even I thought it was getting too long.

Golden oldie! I like self-mockery and this song is just that.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – I Lost On Jeopardy

The original has always sounded great to me, so this one will definitely go in.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – I Think I’m A Clone Now

A nice quiet song by Weird Al, is that possible? Yes! Plus, I also really enjoy singing this one.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota

Every now and then his songs have really creative videos. Jurassic Park is a very good example of this.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Jurassic Park

This is a really bland song about someone who has a huge TV. Didn’t you hear? I like bland!

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Frank’s 2000″ TV

Amish Paradise is one of his most famous songs. Also because Coolio didn’t like it at all at the time. Nowadays he can laugh about it, although he will be very disappointed that he had declined the royalties.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Amish Paradise

Hardware Store is one of my favorite songs. I love the energy that the song radiates. And then he goes the extra mile on two-thirds of the song. Fantastic!

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Hardware Store

When Avril Lavigne broke through, I was quite a fan of hers. I even went to a concert at the Heineken Music Hall, with Our Lady Peace as support act. Al has made it such a nice vague number.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – A Complicated Song

I like Spider-Man and I think Piano Man is a beautiful song. Let’s put those hands together!

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Ode To A Superhero

I find these kinds of songs very funny. There are also some nice cameos in it and then I won’t even know them all.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – White & Nerdy

Oh look, he made a song about me. Uh, I mean… forget what I said!

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Do I Creep You Out?

Husband and wife go to fast food restaurant in 11 minute song.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Trapped In The Drive-Thru

Word Crimes is the perfect song for the language Nazi in me. I don’t know to what extent it stands out, but if I’ve posted a piece, I immediately go through it thoroughly to see if there are still language and spelling errors.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Word Crimes

Foil starts out as a fun parody, but takes a dark turn halfway through.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Foil

Another song of which I like the parody more than the original. A song about doing nothing. That should appeal to a lot of people.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – Inactive

There’s a movie about Weird Al coming up and I’m sure you won’t believe me, but the timing of this bit is purely coincidental. When they announced Daniel Radcliffe as Al, I had my doubts, but I’ve seen it before and when I saw him in the trailer, I got it. If all goes well, it’s not really a true story. It has a number of similarities, but it seems that some things have been made up. Anyway, I think it’s an entertaining movie. Oh, and take a good look at that man behind the desk. Someone you know?
