This is why Black Friday 2022 may be disappointing
It’s November and that means it’s almost time for Black Friday. The big bargain fest only seems to be a bit disappointing this year. We have already listed the reasons why Black Friday 2022 may be disappointing.
This year, Black Friday is on Friday, November 25. It is the day when shops make extreme stunts with the prices of the products and therefore a day that many bargain hunter looks forward to. However, this year already seems to be very disappointing.
No more day full of discount
In recent years, Black Friday has become more and more watered down. Instead of one big day on which deals are flying around you, many stores in the Netherlands choose to display numerous deals days or sometimes even weeks earlier. Shops add to this sporadically during the rest of the month, but that’s about it.
The whole principle of Black Friday is that there is one day to find bargains, so it’s easy not to miss anything. The fact that stores spread the sale out over several days and sometimes even weeks ensures that customers are disappointed. A good deal two weeks before Black Friday can suddenly be bad on the day itself because the product in question can suddenly be found much cheaper elsewhere.
Fewer offers
The next problem has to do with the result of an investigation. At the request of NU.nl, branch organization INretail has investigated the plans that stores have for Black Friday. This shows that shops are planning to give high discounts less often.
As a result, stores will, for example, discount a limited part of the range and there are therefore fewer products on which you can find a discount. In addition, many stores offer discounts on the same products. This makes it look like there are many stores with offers, but in reality they are the same offers at different stores.
Shops drop out
Another problem for Black Friday aficionados is that more and more chains are refusing the bargain day. There are plenty of moves that don’t like Black Friday. So you have Green Friday and Bring Back Friday.
The number of stores participating in Black Friday is therefore decreasing. Dille & Kamille, for example, closes its doors on November 25, so that you cannot buy anything at the physical and digital stores of this chain on that day. A chain such as De Zeeman is not participating in the promotion either. That does not mean that we cannot expect discounts on games, films and gadgets. We certainly expect that.
fake offers
Finally, there is still the problem that has plagued Black Friday for years: fake offers. These are offers that pretend to be a huge discount, when in reality they are not. This is especially true in electronics stores.
Businesses then use the original suggested retail price that stores received when they released a product. The previous sales price that was used in the weeks prior to Black Friday is then hidden away. For example, the discount appears to be larger than it actually is and that is of course of no use to you as a customer.
This now seems very negative, but stores will really start to stunt around Black Friday. We will soon be updating an overview on XGN with all the good deals.
